Look! My mom, Yasuko, found this in a small village in Laos. Several plastic bottles containing yellow and red liquid are kept in a little wooden hut. What are they for?
The red liquid is gasoline, and the yellow one is diesel fuel. These are used for motorbikes and “village tractors.” This village is located in a very remote area. When villagers go to an urban area, they ride a motorbike. When they get around in the village, they drive a “village tractor.” A petrol station like the one you find in a city is not available in the village. Therefore, somebody who bought gasoline or petrol in a city nearby started the “village petrol station.” Inconvenience and necessity in the rural area made the villager invent the petrol station. How creative!
